Tips on healthy eating from kids!

Tips from the experts – my kids!

I asked my oldest kids (a 9-year-old and a 5-year-old) for their ideas and tips on how I could get them eating the healthy things I offer them. This is what they came up with:

  • Don’t give us new foods when we are in a bad mood and tired from school.
  • Ask us just to take one bite, that’s all.
  • Don’t say ‘I know you are going to like this.’
  • Let us watch TV while we are eating new things.
  • Tell us what is in it and what it will taste like (something we know).
  • Show us what the ingredients look like.
  • Remember when we used to put on ‘lipstick’ with our beetroot – make things fun like that.
  • Let us spit it out if we don’t like it.(Mom tip: have paper napkins handy!)
  • Don’t get mad or annoyed at us if we don’t like it.
  • We like trying to get a rainbow in our tummy.
  • Telling funny jokes and thinking up gross food combinations during dinner – that’s fun.
  • Let us colour at breakfast.
