The Most Inspiring Places In London

It’s easy to stop really seeing the place that you spend most of your time, whether that’s an office, your home or your town. Yellow Kite is based in London, a hub of creativity  which we sometimes forget to appreciate (particularly on dark and rainy winter mornings). So here are our recommendations for the most inspiring places in London, for visitors and locals who need to take a moment!

Emma Cowlam, Illustrator:

If I’m going to a gallery for research I often try to pop in on a Saturday afternoon to St Martin’s in the Fields church (the one opposite the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square) to listen to their classical orchestra practice. It’s amazing! Anyone can go and listen for free and it’s so uplifting.

Caitriona Horne, Marketing Manager:

On the same road as the British Museum, L. Cornelissen & Son and the Contemporary Ceramics Centre always have beautiful window displays. The former sells art supplies and the latter contemporary ceramics (the clue’s in the name) and I love to browse in both if I’m early to meet friends in central London. They really make you appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into creating something beautiful.

There aren’t many places in London quite as special as Sir John Soane’s House in Holborn. Untouched since the architect’s death 180 years ago, it’s a treasure trove of weird and wonderful art and curiosities. On the first Tuesday of every month, you can view it by candlelight, which adds even more to the old-world atmosphere. And entry is free!

My love affair with the Tate Modern began at a young age, it’s my fail-safe sanctuary for a happy afternoon in London. The powerful new addition to the Tate Modern – The Switch House, is truly incredible, and the best part? The spectacular 360ᵒ views of the London skyline from the open viewing terrace at the top. Access is FREE! It certainly gets quite busy during peak times – but it’s so worth it.
